Hopscotch is opening a new early learning and child care center in St. Albert in early 2018. Purpose designed and built, the center will be in a brand-new building designed from top to bottom to be an excellent environment for children to play and learn, and for staff to work and educate. Position Summary
Location: 250, 4 Versailles Avenue, St. Albert (6 min from Anthony Henday via Ray Gibbon Drive)
Compensation: Very competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours: Full time and part time
Start date: Flexible, early 2018
The new centre is currently recruiting to fill positions for Child Care Supervisors, Workers, and Assistants. As the educators in the center, it is your primary role to provide outstanding care and early learning to the children in the centre, ensuring their safety and security at all times.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing outstanding care for the children under your supervision, ensuring their needs are met (social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional)
- Maintain and demonstrate professional practices and ethics at all times
- Help the children in your care feel safe, comfortable, and nurtured
- Participate in planning and updating the curriculum (drawing on your observations, expertise, and knowledge)
- Plan activities based on sound practice so that children are learning through having fun
- Serve meals and assist children with eating
- Engage with families to exchange the latest information on their child during pick up / drop off and via daycare software
- Listen to parent concerns and address them or engage the Director to assist
- Report to the Director issues relating to children, parents, staff, or the program
- Ensure the environment is safe, secure, and well maintained by ensuring proper use of equipment and reporting any required maintenance
- Further develop and build your professional skills and abilities
- Participate in evaluating and improving centre programming
Abilities and Qualifications
- Child Care Supervisor, Worker, or Assistant Certification from Alberta
- Knowledge on leading child care practices
- Experience in working with young children
- Comfortable relating to children and communicating with families
- Proficient with and willing to learn technology (e.g. MS Office, daycare software)
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds, as required
An asset, or willing to obtain:
- First aid certification (Red Cross or St. Johns)
- Valid WHMIS Certification
- Fire Extinguisher training
- Immunizations as recommended by Alberta Health
- Knowledge on licensing, accreditation, and child care legislation in Alberta
